My travels have always taken me to the seaside, and this magazine captures the happy memories of those coastal moments—which will forever remain defining chapters of my life—as well as the everyday stories of life spent constantly feeling the sea breeze.

I’d like to use free-form design to chronicle the encounters and reflections that occur “within the reach of the sea breeze.”

And so, I’ve created “mar+RICO” (Maruriko), a graphic essay magazine literally themed around the “sea.”

In “mar+RICO,” “Mar” (pronounced “Maru” or “Maaru”) is Spanish for “sea.” “RICO” (pronounced “Riko”) is Spanish and primarily conveys meanings such as “delicious” or “the best.”

I hope you can feel the sea in every corner of these pages, and I hope the charm of the seaside comes through, even just a little.
